A brief history of the first school

The oldest known formal school was discovered in Egypt's middle kingdom. It's believed that the treasurer to Mentohotep the Second, Kheti, was the director of the school in the period of (2061-2010 BC). The early logographic system in Mesopotamia took a long time to master. Eventually, a number of people were hired as scribes to teach others in its reading and writing. Only nobles were educated, most of them in their father's trades, while girls stayed at home with their mothers to learn housekeeping. They also looked after their younger siblings! Once syllabic writing became more common, the number of Mesopotamian people who became literate had risen significantly. During the Babylonian times, libraries were erected in most towns and a new social class of scribes started to appear, most of them worked in agriculture, some as personal secretaries, and others as lawyers!
